Europe 2019 – Catch Up

We are having so much fun and the tour is so busy, we haven’t had time to post anything for a few days. We will try to play catch up today.

Venice

This was the first time in Venice for both of us and it was amazing. We watched a glass blowing demonstration that was so interesting. The glass “Master” has to work fast and obviously carefully considering the heat of the glass. We posted the incredible gondola ride with the beautiful serenading. It is worth watching and the ladies traveling in our group were so fun to share the experience with. We also took a boat to Burano which had the quaintest colorful houses and a tower that was leaning just a little. Some of our most memorable sites are below.

Florence

Quick stay in Florence to see the statue of David by Michelangelo. The detail, strength and size of this carving from marble is amazing. Then we were on to see La Duomo which is a huge cathedral with a gold dome. While in Florence, we went to a Tuscany style dinner with delicious pasta and wine.

Cinque de Terre

This tour was a sight as we got on a boat and sailed to five (cinque) different towns or villages along the coast of the Mediterranean (I think) that has colorful homes built side by side in the walls of the cliffs. We stopped in the village of Monterosso, had a gelato and I had fun taking photographs of unique architecture and scenes.

Genoa

We toured this city along the sea and is considered part of the Italian Rivera. The architecture is much simpler here but we toured a cathedral with beautiful details in the ceiling except for one section that was plain white and very modern. Interestingly, she explained that the section of roof had been destroyed by a bomb in the world war. They still had a missile within the church in memory of those fallen. We didn’t stay long in Genoa as it is time to work our way to Monaco and Nice in France. I am hoping that I will have a little easier time with the language but not sure how much I will recall from high school. The countryside along the coast is so beautiful and I am feeling so blessed to be on this trip with someone so dear to me.

Vince is bummed to be missing his weekly call with his parents today but anxiously awaits the next chat as he will have loads of stories to tell them.
